ORAL HISTORY ARCHIVE – CATALOGUE

The annotated list of lifetime interviews is arranged alphabetically by the names of respondents.
Entries include the name of the respondent, date of birth (and death), occupation, and the main events in his/her life up to the date of the lifetime interview. With incomplete, thematic interviews concentrating on a single event or incident, entries also give the area of research at which the interview was directed. Place names are given only where respondents lived or were active outside Budapest. With participants in the 1956 revolution, entries include the activity of the respondent and where it took place, any arrest or internment, and the period of custody. With those convicted in Hungary on charges relating to the revolution, the year of release is given only for those not released under a partial amnesty (1959 or 1960) or the general amnesty (1963). Finally, entries show the public-availability status of the interview, the inventory number, the year the interview was made, the length of the interview (in standard typewritten pages of about 280 words), and the name of the interviewer.
Thematic interviews are marked *.
Interviews that are fragmentary or were broken off for some reason are marked [Fragment]
Interviews with offspring and others conducted under the ‘Second Generation of ’56-ers’ research programme are marked [Second generation]
Interviews made under the ’Other Hungary’ research programme are marked [MM].
The inventory numbers of interviews conducted in 1981–1985 under the leadership investigation programme are prefixed V.
The public-availability statuses of the interviews are designated as follows.
[Public]: the interview is freely available for research and quotation with a source attribution.
[Available for research]: the interview is freely available for research, but quotation requires the permission of the respondent and the interviewee.
[Closed]: both research and quotation require the permission of the respondent and the interviewee.
