Dessewffy, Gyula (1909–2000)

Journalist. Dessewffy became an editor of the opposition Independent Smallholders’ Party (FKgP) paper, the Kis Újság, in 1939, and later took part in the resistance. Returning to the Kis Újság in 1945, he became its editor-in-chief as well as heading the press department of the FKgP. He fled the country after Prime Minister Ferenc Nagy had been forced into exile. In 1951, he started the regular Hungarian broadcasts by Radio Free Europe (SZER) in Munich, as head of its Hungarian department. He remained a leading figure in the Hungarian community in exile. He moved to Brazil in 1961.
