RÓZSA UTCA (in Hungarian)
A documentary film
The following people gathered at the flat of Márta Mészáros, film director, in the summer of 2003: Mészáros herself, Miklós Jancsó, Ferenc Grunwasky, Péter Bacsó, Ágnes Heller, György Konrád, Frigyes Gödrös, Júlia Orbán, Valéria Wagner, Panni Sárdy and Katalin Jancsó. Rózsa utca, the street where the flat is, became a household word back in the Sixties and Seventies, when Mészáros and Jancsó were living there as a married couple,. Their flat was as a kind of agora, a public place where writers, film people, actors, artists and their Hungarian and foreign friends came together almost every day.
The gathering, reminiscent of those earlier occasions, was not spent simply in recollections. It turned into a deep, analytical discussion that made an exciting contribution to the political and cinematic history of the Sixties and Seventies. Of course, the film includes recollections of many entertaining occurrences as well, and some superlative clips…
